Under the Bonnet (Hood)
There is a bunch of stuff here, all built above the motor.

The wiring here looks a bit complex. It was attacked one component at a time. The most interesting part is the large high voltage cables in orange. The plus and minus cables arrive from the batteries in the back of the car. Following them into the "contactor box", positive goes to the main contactor and negative to the shunt. from there the two cables proceed to the "inverter" which plays a very large part of most operations. In this case, it is the inverter that tells the contactor how much power goes to the motor. The inverter converts the direct current to three alternating current leads that go to the three phase induction motor.

Pretty cool.
